Greetings, esteemed builders!

In Civica: Italian Renaissance, you can expect grid-free building and planning that adapts completely to the terrain. With our road construction tool, you can create paths and roads in organic shapes with just a few clicks. Your residents will use them to find their way to work, to their homes, or to the market square, while urban carters transport all goods from the factories to the warehouses.

In true Italian style, the houses nestle along the streets, forming winding city centers. New building sites for residential buildings can be created in any shape and size along existing streets with just four clicks using the building construction tool. Houses, gardens, and extensions automatically adapt to the course of the streets. If a plot is large enough, several buildings are even placed automatically and connected to existing ones.

All plots are enclosed by stone walls typical of Italy – the muretti a secco. In the courtyards and along the house fronts, procedurally placed details such as tool sheds, storage rooms, benches, and many other objects are created to bring your city to life.

In Civica, residential buildings connect with neighboring buildings to form procedurally generated, continuous building fronts. As the city expands, these buildings are extended and continuously developed, taking on a variety of forms that reflect the architectural diversity of Italian cities.

If there is enough space in the backyard, a garden upgrade can be added to each residential building. There, residents can grow different types of cabbage to increase local food production, or produce eggs in a chicken coop.

The fields on the farms can also be laid out flexibly and organically. Like the residential buildings, they adapt to the shapes of the surrounding streets. The field boundaries are bordered by promenades of bushes and small trees or by fences and stone walls.

The market square is the economic center of the cities in Civica. Depending on the size of the city and the businesses located there, various merchants set up their stalls here and offer their goods for sale. The offerings range from raw material and tool merchants to wine merchants. The market square can also be freely designed in terms of shape and size, which influences the number of possible sales stalls and gives each city its own unique character.

That's it for today's developer diary. Next time, we'll take a look at the various trades in Civica, from lumberjacks to blacksmiths.
